Not only does it do what it should, it does it for free. Personally, I would rather use engagifire but since lead monster is free, it is a pretty good alternative.

Is Lead Monster a shiny object?:

Yes, it is IF you have popups, 2 step optins and exit pops.
No, it isn’t IF you are not building a list yet and do not have the tools to properly and quickly build a list.

Does Lead Monster fit my business model?

Sure thing. It fits nicely, but I prefer to use stuff that I know will be supported for a long time to come. Specifically thrive leads, and elegant themes’ “bloom”

Does Lead Monster have a profit potential?

Yes. If you are just getting started online, then this plugin can help build a list easily with less fuss than many other plugins available. The plugin is lacking a bit of a polished “sexy” factor, but I am confident that very beautiful forms can be made even though the editing area is not so beautiful.

In general, this plugin is a business enhancer as opposed to an add on. Good add on’s require little to no extra work and add a new stream of income. Business enhancers have less of an immediate impact but are also important.
